Turning 24
Once you turn 24, the criteria for Student Allowance changes and this could affect your payment.
When you turn 24, your Student Allowance will no longer be based on your parents' income
If you have a partner, it could also mean that you're now in a recognised relationship
What you need to do
Already applied
You don't need to do anything right away. We'll send you a letter telling you if we need any other evidence to support your application.
If you're eligible, we'll pay you from when you turn 24. However, if you want to be paid from before your 24th birthday, you'll need to provide the information and evidence that we asked for.
New application
If you haven't applied for a Student Allowance and now want to do so, you can do this online.
Recognised relationship
If you're now in a recognised relationship, you need to:
- apply online for a Student Allowance (if you haven't already)
- get your partner to complete a Partner's form.
